Melbourne Mining Club Dinner, London

Monday, June 29, 2009

The Melbourne Mining Club (MMC) is a not-for-profit organisation formed to promote the Australian minerals industry and provide a networking forum for those with an interest in the sector. The MMC is now arguably the premier mining club and single-focus forum for mining industry discussion and profile world-wide.

The MMC aims to provide a forum for discussion of matters of interest and importance to the mining industry and has attracted a wide range of guest speakers since its formation in 2001. Its main Melbourne events (lunchtime, Melbourne Town Hall) regularly attract sell-out crowds of more than 700. Satellite events for smaller companies, branded as the ‘Cutting Edge’ series, attract more than 250. In the past two years, the Melbourne Mining Club has also successfully conducted sell-out events in London.

Past speakers at the major events have included the Chief Executive Officers of BHP Billiton in Marius Kloppers, Chip Goodyear and Brian Gilbertson; CEOs of Rinto Tinto in Tom Albanese and Leigh Clifford as well as the CEOs of current or former global major mining houses like Inco, Falconbridge, Ivanhoe Mines, Newmont, Anglo Gold Ashanti, Newcrest Mining, Zinifex, Oxiana, Woodside Petroleum and WMC Resources (see website www.melbourneminingclub.com for more detail).

The Club’s Patron is Sir Arvi Parbo and its principal sponsors are Swann Global and AMC Consultants. In addition, the MMC has attracted the financial support of a wide range of industry participants. The Event Sponsor of the London meeting has been the ANZ Banking Group, with Support Sponsors including Austrade and Foster’s. All surplus funds from MMC events are directed to the education foundations of both the Minerals Council of Australia (Victoria) and the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM).

By invitation only.
